hi there
wheel to wheel racing? or autocross? Willow springs, California speedway, button willow are the good tracks . Speed ventures is a great place to start looking. The good ones are NASA hpde. Hpde 1 is where you would start $350 for a weekend with an instuctor.
At the stadium parking lot they have autocross. The next Nasa hpde is button willow Oct 10, 11

You won't do anything stupid. There is alot of run off on these big tracks . People spin all the time and hit nothing. Just buy some hawk blue pads for the front brakes and you should be good. Let me know what you end up doing I am at most of the southern Cal events with the rest of the mustang guys. Check out the post under this thread called a few videos. That is California speedway . Its a bad track they open up part of the nascar oval.

I'm reading about the HPDE stuff now, California Speedway is close to my parents house so I might just visit them when I get an urge

Looks like a Button Willow event coming up time to start talking to wife :-p

What are the odds of doing good in an auto -_-

You will do fine, 5 speed is much better but in hpde its no big deal. If you have the money pick up a set of used rims and some good tires best mod you can do. Tires and brakes. toyo 888r is the spec tire for nasa racing about $800 for a set but worth it. You will need numbers and want to pick up some blue tape to protect the front of your car also will need a sa2005 helmet.
Its alot of fun going 150 mph in your car
