Gotta get some gears

Gotta get some gears
Ok, here is the thing... I just finished up with the simple mods, next it is on to gears. What I am planning on doing is going to our local truck junk yard and finding a Ford Ranger with a 7.5 3.73 Traction Lock rear. It seems to me that that part would serve me perfectly fine. I run the stock 5 speed trans so I think that the 3.73 will give me that extra power and then the traction lock will provide me with the closest answer to POSI. I was looking into the 4.10 gears but I still use my car for trips, and that would kill my gas mileage. I am still undecided though about the ratio because there is also the 3.55. Does anybody run either one? and if so how does it perform?

why dont you just order some instead of buying junked parts. that short on cash? and the heck would you hook up the POSI in your car, and another thing does it matter where you get the 3.73 gear, whether be it a ranger or a catalog will they all fit?

personally ide just get a 8.8 rear end at the junk yard. the 7.5 is a piece of ****. but no matter what you do, get a 4.10 gear. you will be dissapointed with 3.73. gas milage isnt any different either. especially with the 5th gear in your t5.

RE: Gotta get some gears
Yeah, I was looking at the 4.10s but then I figured out that I would be running about 4000 rpm in 4th at about 60mph. Thats a killer when you have to run to South Carolina from Maryland every six months. That is why I was looking at the 3.55 even. Also the reason for looking at junk yard parts is because I have just spent almost over $1000 in the past two weeks for mods and I really would like to keep to budget. I also just purchased a Steeda Tri Ax Short Throw shifter a couple minutes ago off eBay. It might take a while but hopefully next is the Venom heads.

RE: Gotta get some gears
I would go with a new set..gears with 10-20k on them can be hard to set up as a good pattern is already worn into them...as they are more likey to whine....when you find the posi rebuild the clutches for like 45.00 keep 2 of the best and install them with the new ones this will tighten up the unit.. you'll be good for 100k or more
