Exhaust or emissions, what is it? HELP
I need some help!!!
After just replacing my exhaust from the cats back on my 86 GT I happen to notice a loose tube, about the diameter of a nickle, which ties into both exhaust pipes just before the H-pipe. The pipe runs all the way up to a series of vacum control valves inside the engine compartment then it looks like this tube mounts to the rear of each head near the firewall.
What is it?? Do I need to replace it or can I bypass it if its not needed.
Someone please give me a clue.

you cant elminate the smog pump line...it would blow **** into your engine compartment. however, you could elimiate the smog pump, but if you have emissions where you live, im not sure if you would pass

Could I seal off the lines on the exhaust side and also the line going to the heads, remove the pump and seal off all the vacume lines??
Do I need this system working for the car to run properly?

I believe it pushes fresh air in to reduce the overall percentage of emissions out. (by diluting it) If you bypass it or block it, you are only hurting your emissions.
