STS turbo = POS!!!!
Was up at my tuners today and they had an '06 GT up on
the rack installing one of those STS remote mount turbos,
WHAT a F**CK'N PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!
1. Horrible location
2. They were complaining about oil feed/drain problems
3. Tiny Tiney piping
4. Single exhaust?!?!?, caps off one side at H-pipe and run single exhaust back to turbo.
your tailpipe looks like a ph*ck'n V6!!!
What a joke, thing looked very rinky-dinky
One good pot-hole also looked like it would take out the boost return pipe too.

RE: STS turbo = POS!!!!
aside from looks. They aren't as efficient. They have an upside of the air charge being cooler & an upside of the oil being cooler, but the exhaust charge is also cooler which makes it more dense so it won't power the turbo as efficiently. They combat that by using a different exhaust size which makes it able to produce boost at the same rpm as a normal setup, but it sacrifices efficiency. The reason some people use this setup isn't for looks or sound, they do it because they have to.. some cars don't have room for two turbos in the engine bay so they mount the turbo back there.

RE: STS turbo = POS!!!!
This isnt a twin turbo like the Vet has.
it just use's one small turbo, and I wouldnt want to drive it
in the rain with it tucked up right behind the rear wheel.
and Hellion managed to get it all in the engine bay with their single turbo kit.
anyway, just saw them installing it and got the chance to stick
my head under there and give it a good looking over and
was thoroughly unimpressed

Hellion has more skill at finding spots than sts does.

RE: STS turbo = POS!!!!
Nothing new about STS being junk, there are several GOOD options for turbo kits for S197s though. I can't say I am crazy about how Hellion ran some of their piping UNDER the control arms of the S197 though.
If you ever look at a dyno of an STS car they look more like a centrifugal because they typically don't make full boost until 4000-4500 RPMs.

I'll play devils advocate here.
Has anyone heard of car with a remote mount turbo that flooded or had water damage?
Wouldn't you be in the same boat if your tail pipe suddenly submerged?
I mean, we get what, 4, maybe 5 rainy days in CA and its definately not enough to flood or get up to where a turbo would be.
Just my .02

Well not everyone lives in the desert, besides water is the least of the problems with that system. Complicated piping that is routed way too low, oiling and torque curve are much bigger issues to me.
