Here's a great tech article on Mustang AOD's, and making the conversion from manual tranny. I'm running a "built" 4r75w AOD, and I love it.

Before I get flamed, I cummute to work an hour each way, in stop-n-go freeway traffic... that's why the AOD.

no, thats NOT an aod. no flames for you. aod is the 4 speed "automatic overdrive" that was used from 198X-1993

94-95 ?? went to aode the "e" being electronically controlled, and some of them were wide ratio'd (pretty sure just the lincoln mark's), w/ a 2.84 instead 2.40 1st gear,1.55 instead 1.47 2nd gear, redline clutches wider od band and thats about it. (a servo did not come with, you should do that too)motorsport sells the kit kit to change a aod to the wide ratio specs, i did it, it was expensive, supposed to bulletproof to the 11's and i broke it in 10 months w/ a 14 second car.

anyways, the newer trannies are much much better, don't confuse yours for an aod

almost every trans bulder makes a good c4 my buddies all use art carr or performance automatic

ok well if your drivin it on the street u most likely dont have a crap load or horse ower so the c4 would be good..... the c 4 is a very good trasmition and its about 45 pounds lighter then the c6.. but only better from anywere to around 800 hp... thats were the c6 is better... the c6 will be beter for your car and racing advatages if ur running 800 or higher becaus eit can withstand alot more abuse what why with cars over 800 hp they usually have a c6 or better
( i know this because we just put a c4 into a 71 mach 1 we drag race at the drag strip pushing around 667 hp)

proformance auto is supposed to be the shat....4r70w's and aode's have stronger input shafts and the make kits to swap it into a aod i think it is part of what bob was saying...i have been researching a 4r70w for my car and i see alot of talk of this... also extra clutch discs in 3rd gear pack...bigger drum and kevlar band....ati convertors seem to be the ford way.... http://www.transmissioncenter.net/aode.htm#Level%202
