Take a look at the engine. I don't know about fords but dodge smallblocks have the distributor at the back of the motor behind and under the air cleaner. The big blocks have them up front. Perhaps Ford has some equally easy way to tell them apart.

A cleveland is not a big block,it's about the same size as a windsor,a BOSS 302 had cleveland cylinder heads on because they have canted valves and flowed better than other available heads at that time. The easy way to tell the difference between a windsor and a cleveland is the thermostat on a windsor is in the intake and a cleveland is in the front of the block, the 351m-400 engines are simular to a cleveland but have a raised deck.
