Default probably been asked many times but here goes

I am con sidering an upgrade. I want to add about 100 hp to my 2001 gt. I don 't know very much about a supercharger but nitrous scares the hell out of me. Seen too many backfires (and fires). I am on a budget and was considering a supercharger. Been looking on ebay and about $1500 (used) seems to be the norm. Any suggestions on the best type? I don't want to change my hood, so roots type seems out because of clearance issues. My car has about 75,000 mi on it and runs 14.20 with a 5speed 3.73 gears and is driven daily except when snow is on the ground.. Anybody have any suggestions as to what type (Vortech Procharger etc).

I just realized that $1500 is for a 5.0. Thanx for the advise guys.

You wont need to change your hood if you go with a roots or twin screw. As long as you stay away from PowerDyne, you'll be ok. I like Vortech and ATI myself.

I suggest nitrous. Honestly for s/c youll need the kit, gfuel injectors, fuel pump chip+tune, install, ext... so thats a 1500$ super charger turned into 300 dollars like that. But you can get a nitrous kit used for around350, get a window switch chip and your there for more than 1/2 the price. I dont no were you got fires and **** but if you do it RIGHT nitrous aint shiat.

dry kits cannot backfire since nitrous is not flammable, and no fuel is flowing through anywhere that it shouldn't be.

i suggest nitrous as well, but asfar as your question goes, do a vortech.

powerdyne is kinda cool but won't make the same power, i'm not a paxton fan.

nitrous oxide is flammable dude, and if you don't retard your ignition timing enough it could stop the rotating assembly and spin it backwards. I'm not saying nitrous should be out of the question but it's not nearly as safe as a supercharger. look at paxton, they tend to be a prettyinexpensive reliable product. by the way, Merry Christmas!

I guess i was looking at s\c for a 5.0. I ahve seen intakes on pro-mods fly 30 feet in the air with a nitrous backfire and a 12 sec 5.0 blew up on a guy in the pits (what a moron). I want something drivable and dependable. Guess I'll keep looking, thanx for the replies

The only nitrous that is flammable is if you're running a wet kit, when it mixes with fuel. Nitrous by itself is not flammable.
