Default Belt Slip

Recently I have been noticing some belt dust around my idler pulley. I know this is considered normal when you swap SC pulleys, but did not know until yesterday that it is generally reccommended to run a belt that is 1 - 1 1/2" smaller on my application.

I stopped on the way home from work and picked a smaller belt up which I put on that afternoon. All I can say is WOW! I must have had some belt slip going on from the start because I can actually feel a noticible difference when the car is in boost.

The guy that pointed me in the right direction said that I could have been seeing a 1-2 psi lost because of the belt slipping at higher rpms.

Needless to say, I was very happy and wanted to share.

Not yet. [:@]

The only tracks around me are 1/8 mile. The Mustang club in my area is renting a track the same weekend all of you guys are getting together.

So with your meet and the club, I would have had two great chances to try it. But I will be in New Orleans that weekend. One of my friends is a Saint's season pass owner and is taking me down for my birthday. I usually go to a game once or twice a year with him as I like the city.

I will get to a track soon, but I'm not holding my breath. I know my times will probably be like ****.

The guy that tuned my car said that he sees most modded Cobra's run in the high 7's. I don't know what that equals out to in a 1/4.

This past weekend, I got the chance to play with a guy in a modded GT that I pulled pretty easy through second and third. He asked if I had ever run at a track and what my times were, but I haven't. He said that he was running low 8's. Don't know if I believe him or not.

High 7's are low 12's in the quarter

That sounds cool. I have been looking through a bunch of posts with time slips on the Cobra's, and see most are in the mid-high 7 sec. range.

There are a bunch of posts and videos of some of these guys running mid-high 11's in the 1/4 with the same mods that I have plus sticky tires. Getting it to hook seems to be the problem. I'm not experienced in the strip too much, but was told that when the trap speeds are high while the times are not too good, it = traction problems.

It seems that the DOHC motors favor the higher rpms, and make up some ground from the 1/8 to the 1/4.

A lot of the 11 sec. times were with mid 7's at the 1/8 mile mark.

Did they print the 1/8 mile ET on your ticket when you made the pass after installing the Vortech? I can't wait to see what you get when you change the gear!

R/T ........ .083 (don't matter)
60' ......... 1.918 (best of the night wahoo!)
330 ........ 5.346
1/8 ........ 8.103
MPH ....... 89.39
1000 ...... 10.455
1/4 ........ 12.439
MPH ....... 109.36 (coasting through traps)

My best trap that night was 114 and my best 1/8 was 8.02... on the 8.02 I bounced off the limiter about 150 feet before I got the the traps and only trapped at 107 (let off after I hit the limiter). My higher trap speeds were when I had passengers and didn't hit the limiter till about 50 feet before the traps.

That's sweet.

Hitting that time while coasting at the end.

I think when I finally do get to a track, I will go easy the first few times until I see what I'm doing.

I've got shifting it pretty much at the same rpm down by how the car sounds. With my stock F1's, I will probably just try launching from idle.

My first run with the supercharger was a 12.8, then worked it down to 12.6 then a couple 12.4's

2nd gear was the hardest because powershifting or shifting fast would creame the tires... thats where most of the modded '03+ Cobra's hurt their run because you'll have way more power and torque on the shift than me, and if I'd had problems then.... its gotta be alot tougher for you. I just saw a dude on another board with an '03 Cobra and 500 rwhp /605 rwtq post that he run a 12.65 @ 121mph ... and that was on Nitto drag radials...

Aside from not being able to hook up, the extra power and torque is fun isn't it?

My dad rode in my car last night for the first time since my pulley swap. I slowly pulled off in 1st, shifted to 2nd, and then proceded to break the rear end loose by just rolling into the throttle.

The color just drained from his face and he couldn't stop talking about it.

It's odd though. Sometimes the car feels like it hooked and then goes like a slingshot.

Anyways, they are fun rides.
