Default 347 stroker manners

im interested in building a 347 for my 92 lx but i was wondering what kind of street manner this would have since it would be a daily driver? anyone have one? i also plan to use the fuel injection setup, will i need computer reprogramming? or can i just put it in there as if it was a 302?

Your computer set up should be fine for the increased cubic inches. Mass air allows for that. When you start changing other factors such as cam, injector size, boost, etc. you would need to dyno tune to extract the most power possible. The stock computer does a pretty good job of compensating though. The 347 engine shouldn't give you any problems if it's built correctly. The oil loss comment is only if the oil ring land extends below the wrist pin area. Most kits nowdays have corrected that. With a longer rod the motor should operate just fine. One bonus with a 331 however is you can usually get by without having to notch the block. Either one is a good choice to make more power.

No you will not need anything doen to the computer. Set up a correct fueling system and you're fine. I'm running a 347 as a daily driver right now that makes 425 to the rear wheels.

347s are not a problem with daily driving IF its not a monster engine..... a 302 could be turned into a NON daily driver...so it depends.....but a nicely modded 347 should NOT be a problem. </P>

You don't really need computer changes on your 92.</P>

Oil is not a problem on 347s as long as the wrist pin hole doesn't extend into the oil ring slots/grooves.</P>

i know that the oil comsumption problem can be fixed with the type of pistons you described but the crown of the piston on those types is prone to cracking if there ever happens to be detination. i think i might change my plans and build a 331, the rod ratio is about the same as stock, compared to the 347 which has a worse rod ratio and causes increased wear. for a street engine that sees minimal drag duty i think id perfer a 331 stroker. let me know what you think. also i will be using the fuel injection setup off a 5.0 not stock though, the edelbrock performer intake.<edited><editID>94kbscobra</editID><editDate>37839.7461226852</editDate></edited>

I personally will probably go with a 331, but thats only because I want to drive it around town ALOT and 347 credibility is in the phase of being built. --- I'm not saying they are bad, because they are NOT bad at all, they just had some itty bitty issues.....</P>

Actually, if pretty much everything was constant (minus HP) and the costs were the same, I'd go for the 347. --- and if I don't hit my "New Engine" mark byFeb. next year, then I'm probably going to splurge and go for the 347......but if I had to buy one right now...I'd go with a 331. -- </P>

As of now I have a nice 302 modded but still N/A. -- </P>

Detonation will f**k any motor up, be it built or not.
