Default Turbo guys, explain some stuff please.

I've been searching and I cannot find a decent explanation. I guess I get the basic concept of how an internal wastegate works, but what about an external? As far as I know, it mounts between the exhaust mani and the turbo. How exactly is it setup to force the exhaust to run through it first to determine how much boost is produced? Or am I way off on this? Can somebody clear this up for me a little bit?

Also with a blowoff valve, I read that it's bad to just have your blow off valve vent into the atmosphere...as opposed to what? Venting it back into the exhaust AFTER the turbo? Is that how it's supposed to be done?

the external wastegate works off your boost once you get to say 10lbs of boost (if that where you have the wastegate set to) the wastegate starts to open which vents the exhaust out which will slow the exhaust turbine down. if you run a blowthough mass air with the blow off valve mountedbefore the mass air you shouldn't have a problem. Now if you mount you mass air with your filter on the turbo side that sucks your air though and mount you blow off valve on your tubing before your intake you will have a problem between shifts because the mass air has already meter that air and your venting it off which will cause you to run rich. now im new with this turbo stuff im installing one right now. so anybody out there correctme ifim wrong im new and learning to..

ok but how does the wastegate get the boost? how is it setup in the system so that the boost gets to it? Sorry if I'm not makin any sense.

the wastegate has a port on it that you run a vaccum line from tha wastegate to somewhere on the boost side like the tubing not on the motor anywhere. you can set your wastegate up to open at 5lb 10lb and so on. when the wastegate gets that to that boost the spring in side will start to open venting the exhaust out now if you adjust the wastegate by turning the adjuster screw on top you can put more pressure on the spring and it willnt open until you start making more boost 12lb 14lb so on..
