ok so i was thinking about my exhaust system on my mustang, and i thought of this wy don't i build a single pipe off of every cylinder and run it out back muffler for each and all? now my question to ya'll is what will it do to the pressure and sound?

You'll lose hp. The reason they're all together is for a scavenging effect to help pull exhaust gasses out of the other cylinders when one fires. I can post a picture later showing what happens inside the exhaust.

The only upside to it is that you can size the piping pretty large to reduce backpressure to zero. The reason exhaust pipes aren't already sized to remove backpressure completely is because when going bigger you lose velocity, the more the velocity the bigger the pull creating the scavenging effect. That's why 2.5" pipes are generally recommended on a stock or near stock mustang, go too small & you'll lose hp, go to big & you'll lose hp.

what if this was on a 1400hp+ race car? i think that that would constitute a larger pipe!

it doesn't matter if it's 140 hp or 1400hp. The same scenario applies. 1400 would require a larger diameter, but again you can't go too big without losing power. I believe 1400 would come out to around 5 or 6" single or 3 or 3.5" duals.

Talking

A guy at one of the local car shows had a Model A street rod with a pipe for each cylinder ran to mid way down the car and it sounded badass when he revved it up. Sounded like he had decent backpressure and didn't trumpet or crackle like I thought it would.
There is also a video out there somewhere of a street drivenISH 80? Z28 with zoomies comin right thru the hood, it was running on nitromethane, and it was shooting shooting flames out of each pipe as it idled(just plain crazy stupid, I loved it)

its more of a show thing than a performance thing, its usually done when you can see the pipes. Like on corvettes or hot rods...
