my air intake is the same size as the opening of the blower. a buddy told me to put my bigger intake on so more air goes but will it really give me more power? just got me thinking

Depends on your pipe now. You want the smoothest flow as possible bigger doesn't hurt.

All s/c compressors; centri, roots, & twin screw have the same problem with it. It has to work harder to pull air than push air. Any bends that can be on the pressure side, should be & the lease amount of bends on the inlet side.
Think about trying to suck throught a small rubber hose, then getting a bigger one & trying to suck through it.
