Default Getting new catback system 2.5 in or 3 in?

Hey guys,

I'm getting a new catback exhaust for my 95gt and Im stuck on whether to get 2.5in or 3in exhaust? I dont really have any engine mods as of now so would getting a 3in hurt more than help? Goals for the future, not really sure engine wise....There is potential motor work but not sure at the moment.

Thanks guys.

Deep

I'm not 100% with the mustangs yet, but I would imagine that you want to go with 2.5". 3" inch would be too large and the loss of that much back pressure without forced induction would result in significant torque loss. I would imagine. Hopefully someone will clarify for sure though.

I had the same question for my GT-500 and I called Magnaflow and talked to a tech. He said I should go with the 2.5 if I wasn't planning on modding it much more then a CAI and Tune....He said the 3" is recommended for bigger numbers and not to mention its a lot louder...so I would say go with the 2.5

My guess is if you don't want loud go with the 2.5. My best friend has it on his 500 and he's pushing 650rwhp no problem.

Oh yeah. Did I mention it's just a rear section for a lil muscle noise. Apparently the stock 500 exhaust is 2.5 and pretty friggin good from the factory.

haha ok thanks guys. I figured I'd be going with 2.5in since I'm not going forced induction (at least not anytime soon...)

honestly the 2.25 would be fine, you not making enough pwoer to take full advantage of a 2.5, BUT a 2.5 will give you slightly higher HP number while reducing tq number do to less back pressure.
