i was wondering if its cheaper to custom build ur catback? say like i want the borla stingers catback...can i just buy their muffler (which are the s-type mufflers that borla uses on their stinger package) and take it to an exhaust shop and have them custom bend me some 2.5" mandrel pipes? like is their any disadvantage to that? will i get the same sound from the custom borla muffler setup vs the actual stinger package?

You would be much better off buying the whole catback. Are you talking about having some mufflers spliced into your stock catback, or having actual 2.5 inch custom pipe made to create a new system?

actual 2.5" custom pipe made to a create a new system. like i dunno how much an exhaust shop will cost to make that vs the cost of the actual catback system from the company.
I'm willing to bet it's gonna cost alot more. You mentioned stingers. Is that the kind of sound you want, but don't want to spend that kind of money? If so, check out SSS. That's what i have. It's very similar to Borla Stingers in terms of quality and sound (their Teminator catback is louder though) but alot cheaper. You can pick it up new for around $360.

oh really....yeah prolly stingers they are expensive like $640. i was just thinking bc you can pick up their mufflers like $190 each (380+ however much piping cost). but yeah something similar to their sound. ill check out the sss terminator catback. not many ppl have the sss catback? one of the few ive seen with that on their car.
It's not expensive at all to have an exhaust shop fab a cat back with mufflers of your choice. It's usually cheaper. Almost every guy with a sixxer does it. It cost me $190 in labor/shop materials to have them fab everything from the cats to my mufflers, and weld in tips.

Yeah, but what kind of steel do they use? Is it some kind of crappy aluminized stuff? Did they weld it all together, or just clamp it?
Not that eveyone needs 304 mirror polished stainless, but it does have it's benifits, and looks alot nicer.
Even at $190 it's still gonna cost the op around $570 if he did the stingers.

yeah i was thinkin it would be cheaper if the shop fabricated me some pipes and just use like the mufflers found on the a catback system (hoping to get the same sound).....but yeah ill check out the FRPP.
