Question for you guys that run Vortech setups.

Hey whats up Mustang guys. I have a 350z w/ a Vortech kit and had a question for you. I hear from some people that you guys recirculate the bypass valve back into the intake. Is this the case? If so how does it sound? Can you hear it all?

I'm trying to look into running a setup like that in my car as well. The bypass valve venting to the atmosphere in the lower rpm is getting to me a little since this is my daily driver. Cruising on the highway you can hear the air whistle.

i run a bypass set up that recirculates into the intake and i dont hear it at all but it could be because of the loud exhaust

when you recirculate the bypass valve, its almost dead silent. when i had a vortech i never once heard my bypass valve open. even during dyno pulls when i was standing right next to the motor with the hood up, i still could not hear it

Your bypass valve vents into the atmosphere? I thought only blow off valves could do that since they are a one-way valve? Even so, correct me if I'm wrong, you definately shouldn't hear a whistle during cruising speeds from the valve. Are you sure it's not the actual supercharger whistle that you hear? The Vortech units themselves naturally have that kind of sound.

bypass and blowoff are just terms to describe the use of the valve. they are both the same thing and work the same way. some valves can only be used as blowoff because of the design of the valve. a whistle during cruising is normal for a large metal valve. the air squeezing past the metal edges of the valve makes the noise. The plastic valves wont make that noise

Thanks for the responses guys. But yeah I'm definitely sure it's supposed to sound the way it does. When I cruise in 1st and 2nd at partial throttle, it sounds like an aircraft. I guess thats just the nature of the beast. It sounded cool at first but now its just a bit much for cruising.

If I pick up a cheap beater then I'll probably leave it the way it is.

the tubing length & material will have a lot to do with the sound of the supercharger & the bypass. The shorter the plumbing the louder it's going to be. If it's a little loud for you try running a tube off of it to somewhere.
