'99-'04 vs. '05-'10 exhaust sound

main reason the 99-04's sound so good is because of muffler location.
friend of mine has 04 with shotries, o/r x and flows and it sounds very good.
if i were to do that same setup on my 09 it would sound like crap.
mainly because there is no pipe after the muffler to echo and bump the sound.
now on the other hand, to me the 05-09's sound good with a o/r x and any kind of straight through muffler.
