first time at the track, need help
first of all, i know this isnt suppose to go under this category, but for some reason it would not let me post under the street/strip section. so anyone can feel free to move it there!!
I have a 03 gt with exhaust and vortech SC, and thats about it. the suspension, tranny, and everything else is stock. i am going to the track in about a week, and i just picked up a set of slicks on rims (got them for super cheap). will i be ok running the slicks when my car is pretty much stock suspension wise? this isnt a track car, i maybe take it once or twice a year, so its not like im gonna be runnin the slicks on it all the time. some ppl say slicks are easier on the tranny cause the tire wrinkles, and some ppl say DRs are easier on the tranny, i dont know which to believe. i dont plan on just dropping the clutch at like 6k either, probably only like 3500 or 4k. any help would be really appreciated, thanks in advance.

what did you get exactly ? mickeys ? hoosiers?? what size ?
slicks are no way easier on a tranny compared to dr's or street tires... all the hit is on the trans and rear end.. the other will break loose a bit and ease the hit on the drivetrain
but.... you can do less of a burnout or none at all..... 3500 launch is pretty moderate so your not gonna break anything that wasnt gonna break soon anyways. try your first run with no burnout... just spin them to clean them off with no water.... drive around the box and back up if you have to
so all in all... yes your fine
run about 15 psi if you have tubes , if you don't have tubes make sure you have air available cuz you'll most likely experience rim leak
shoot for 1.6 60 foot times, a full slick on a true 300-350 hp car like you have should produce 1.5's but you'd have to launch pretty hard
if you wanted a good pic and felt lucky..... heat them up at about 4k-5k for a good 6-8 seconds AFTER you get smoke. launch it hard (5500-6k) and you'll see about 6" of air under the tire... but thats assuming your not stock geared. 4.10's will pull it all day
