Default Borla vs. Mac vs. Flowmaster

I've got Flowmasters on my '00 GT right now and they drone BAD on the highway! I can't take it anymore, especially with my 4 and 5 yr. olds in the back seat. I had a Bassani o/r x-pipe on it and went back to stock h thinking it would help...it didn't. I've got a friend with a set of Borlas and a set of Macs I can get from him...anybody know which set-up will drone less. I don't mind a little higher volume, it's the low frequency drone I need to get rid of.*

Thanks!

macs are chambered mufflers just like flowmasters, they are still going to drone.

if you want the drone to cease, you need to go with a non chambered muffler.

My buddy said the borlas he's got (which now he needs to find inhis garage, which is a disaster) are the "straight thru" type... Is that like an old school glasspack type deal??? If so, obviously it's not a chambered style muffler and may still be loud, but no 2200rpm drone...right???

Thanks!

Ok, so my buddy didn't come through with the Borlas, thinks he scrapped them with a bunch of other crap he got rid of a few months ago. He did give me the Mac cat-back though, and for the record, compared to Flowmasters, they have a deeper, slightly quiter tone at idle, they scream at WOT, and they drone WORSE than the Flows! So, since I like the Mac 3-1/2" tailpipes and I can't afford a whole cat-back Borla kit (who can!) I'm gonna just buy some Borla mufflers and mate them to the Mac flow tubes and tailpipes. I know Borlas are pretty loud because my buddy had them on a '94 Cobra, but since they're not chambered, they don't really drone. the volume doesn't really bother me as much as the low frequency drone. I do love the sound of Flowmasters, but I think I'm just getting old and want to tone it down a bit, and I feel bad for my kids in the back seat!

Ok, so I've had the Borlas on now for a few weeks and they still drone a little bit. They are MUCH better than the Flows or the Macs. They sound awesome, and they are definitely loud! They have a nice mellow rumble at idle and bit of an old school glasspack sound and feel at WOT. The drone is still there, but it's quieter and happens through less RPM range. Overall, they are perfect for someone who only wants to be loud when getting on it a bit, but wants to be a bit more tolerable when just doing normal driving.

BTW I got 2.5" Borla Pro XS's. I found them at http://www.streetsideauto.com/ for under 80 bucks each and welded them to the Mac flow tubes and tailpipes (you can weld mild steel to stainless).
