is cat-back the same thing as axle back just with a mid pipe? i hear of people with cat-back exhausts and then say they're gonna buy an x pipe/h pipe, is that not defeating the purpose of having a cat-back exhaust?

Cat back = axleback and over axle pipe connecting to the midpipe. So it goes manifold/headers then mid pipe with cats , then catback that consists over over axle pipe then axlebacks.
