Default Just got my first Foxbody!!! Need help!

Just got my first foxbody! 91 GT Emerald Green with Titanium Ground effects. Great shape for 20 year old car and has 49k on the engine. It has flowmaster exhaust but everthing else is stock. I wanted to get an H-pipe for it....when I am looking at different ones they offer shorty and long off road. What kind of headers are on a stock mustang and which H-pipes do I need to purchase to fit on them? Thanks!

Off Road = No Catalytic Converters
Stock mustang headers are shorties and go with a longer H-pipe
Long tube headers are long and go all the way down near the transmission and require a short H-pipe.

..Or X-pipe.

i did the BBk shorty headers and bbk X-pype and kept the flowmasters on the rear end. i found that the x gives it a meaner sound.

Yeah, X pipe > H pipe IMO.

I had a buddy in school that had an H-pipe on his, while I had an X-pipe. I definitely thought mine sounded meaner, although I think his was louder. I've always thought Flow's popped a lot with an X-pipe though, I might be mistaken. It's been forever since I shopped for an exhaust.

BBK makes some nice exhaust pipes, check them out.

Here's what I would recommend (if it's a 5-speed car):

well the honest truth is that you can do long tubes, and a off road X or H

and you'll add about 5 HP to the car for roughly $500

dont get me wrong.....it will sound great, and FYI, id NEVER waste money on shorties, the long tubes are bit harder, you need to lift the engine and while your at it replace the motor mounts. probably need a skinny shaft too, but after that, when you dump all the smog gear the plugs are WIDE open, and having the header collector down lower makes trans swap a cinch. you pull the trans from the bell, and work the bell out by itself

anyways, the better instant gains for the same price are

1) nitrous
2) 4.10 gears and a cheater slick like mickey thompson sprortsman pro

FACTS:

1) a bone stock 5.0 with 4.10 and full slick (et drag) will yank 3-6" off the ground in a 5 speed
2) a bone stock 5.0 with 4.10 and nitrous can run 12's with a decent driver...not a pro driver...a decent driver. able to power shift 3-4, not afraid to no lift shift. you'll need a sticky tire too

more FYI?

every 100 lbs of weight drop is like adding 10 hp, might not sound like much....but you can find 300-500 lbs pretty easy to dump for FREE !!!

it'll take long tubes, h-pipe, pullies, TB , MAF and an intake to get half of that gain

and with that being said...dont fall into the "i gotta upgrade my injectors and intake"

it wont do anything....the stock induction and fuel system on a 5.0 will support 300 TRUE hp, pretty much into the mid 12's, as long as it all works

upgrading anything there will add ZERO hp, it will be needed later , yes, but will gain you nothing now, only support future mods

congrats and good luck

I'll just leave this right here. Cerose85 might find it relevant.
