Default Supercharger Question

I heard a fox body mustang in a parking lot the other day. While it was sitting there idling I could hear the supercharger whining on it. Anyone know what type or brand sounds like that? It sounded really good, so I was just wondering what it could be. Thanks.

Default Supercharger Question

Any gear driven supercharger will make some noise. How the gears are cut makes the biggest difference. Blowers that have straight cut gears make a real loud whining noise. Helical cut gears make some noise but not nearly as loud. Some Powerdyne blowers are driven by a belt and are supposed to be quiet. I haven't heard one running but I do know the belt sucks for reliability. I'm running an A-trim Vortech with the straight cut gears. It's real noisy and most people think somethings wrong with it. I like it but would rather have helical cut if I could do it over. You'll also hear a similiar noise if someone's running gear driven timing gears. The pitch from a blower is higher so you should be able to tell the difference.

I chose the V-1 S-trim for the noise. Can't hardly get a V-1 anymore, Vortech is only making the V-2 (helical cut gears), now.

5LVENOM, what do you mean by "need more ignition"? Also what kind of times are you running with your S-trim?

Default Supercharger Question

On the dyno, at 5000 rpms, my blower at 10psi was blowing my spark out like friggin birthday cake candles, so I need to throw on a Crane HI-6 or MSD 6A, so I have way more spark. We tuned it to 5000 rpm, but I'll go back for another run after the ignition upgrade. As for track times, I haven't run it yet, I have serious traction issues deep into 3rd gear, so thats a whole other story. I'll probably throw on some Nitto DRs and run it to see, but I still don't have the scatter shield or driveshaft loop, so I might get kicked out.

Just a thought for you. I installed some Denso Irridium plugs on my blower motor. I'm also running 10psi. The motor pulls harder and cleaner now with those plugs. I'm not running any ignition booster at all. Just the stock coil. They are expensive but cheaper than the Crane or MSD set up.

Also, I hear you on the traction issue. I just mounted some M/T Sportsman Pro 28X10.5's. That makes a huge difference over street radials.

I'll probably get kicked out too. I'm running a soft top well into the 12's. Oopps. 6 point cage is coming.

I've always run NGKs 2 ranges cooler than stock, gapped at .32-.35, and have a MSD Blaster coil with FMS wires on the car right now. The stock ignition just won't fire the mixture. I am putting on some Nitto DRs soon. This is a street/strip car for now.
