Default Stainless Works’ X275-Legal Turbo Header Kits

as seen on Dragzine.com

Stainless Works is well regarded in the industry for their line of stainless steel exhaust systems and components designed largely for the street crowd, but they’’re throwing their hats into the small-tire heads-up drag racing arena in a big way, as they’ve developed an X275-legal turbo header kit for 1979-1993 Ford Fox body small block Mustangs that all but rule the roost in the popular 275 drag radial eliminator.

This new kit provides virtually everything one needs in the exhaust department for a turbo application with the exception of the turbocharger itself. Included are the headers, the crossover pipe for the turbo, motor plate, and the turbo mount, and a large 5-inch down pipe for the turbo (which turns down to a universal 90-degree that the end user can modify to their needs)

These new kits feature 304 stainless steel headers with 1-7/8-inch primaries and 3-inch slip-fit collectors. 3-inch V-band flanges and clamps are provided and welded on for both headers to crossover connections. The kit is fully TIG welded and back purged for performance, and in total, comes in at about 35 pounds, or roughly 40-41 pounds lighter than a stock exhaust system.

“The big difference with this it is, if you go to a chassis shop to have a set up like this fabricated, your car is down for weeks and will run you anywhere from $6,000 to $8,000. We’re retailing this kit for $2,800, and you can bolt it on in a weekend,” says Stainless Works’ George Rumore.

This turbo header kit, as Rumore shared with us, isn’t a brand new piece in Stainless Works’ arsenal, but the company decided to re-debut it to the public here at the PRI Show, and they expect to see the product really take off in X275 next season as racers search for more cost effective ways to put their cars on the race track.

“Holy cow, what a reception,” Rumore exclaimed when asked of the reaction from the racers and the public to learning more about this kit on display here at the show. “There’s just a ton of interest in it right now.”

Stainless Works currently produces their universal turbo headers that will fit a range of applications, however, this is the first dedicated kit of it’s kind for the Fox body in their catalog, and Rumore suggests that the company may approach other vehicle-specific kits in the future as the market demands it.
