Default wastegasting a centrifugal supercharger

I have an idea but I have no idea if it would work. My idea is to put a smaller pulley on a Vortech V3 but wastegate it to 10 PSI. the wastegate would bleed off the excess boost. This would bring boost on lower in the RPMs and reducing the lag caused by centrifugal superchargers. However, I have not found anything on the internet about anyone even attempting this. Is it even possible?

you are not gone to gain much. the lag is not gone to pick up much due the s/c being driven off the crank. It is not a turbo that spools off exhaust pressure only. If you want to help with lag gear it up. A automatic will also help with a higher stall. putting a small pulley on the s/c to help make it boost sooner, is a good idea BUT now you are heating the air charge even more due to work the s/c harder. one of Pro-chargers variable speed s/c would do what you want but they are not cheap.

If you put a 15 pound pulley on a 10 PSI setup you would reduce lag by about 50%...in theory. I was just wondering if it would work like it should in theory. On top of that, you would gain low end torque from higher boost at lower RPMs.

I first saw this done about 15 years ago. In fact, several shops, like TBR sell pre-fab kits for this.

Rather than pulley a centrifugal for 15psi and gate it for 10lbs, I prefer to just run the 15lbs. I like the powerband of a centrifugal. But everybody has different preferences.

Going with a 4.200 bore 351W stroker. not sure if i'm going to use a 4 inch stroke for a 444W or a 4.1 inch stroke for a 454. I might go nuts and use a 4.250 stroke for 471. Haven't decided yet. I won't need 15 PSI.

"Need" is relative. I ran 28lbs of boost on my 428W stroker, but I'm not right in the head.

But that is a track car. I only want 750 rwhp to be a weekend warrior. I'm not gonna race it, but I want to be able to if I go to the track.

It was a street car. I only took it to the track twice.

Like UEDLOSE said, you'll be introducing heat & lowering higher rpm power. Centrifugal's compress air internally. If you use a smaller pulley & gate off anything above 10psi, the supercharger will still be producing the 15psi at the supercharge & draining the power needed from the crank for that 15psi; you'll just be bleeding off some of that. Ultimately, you'd end up with your 10psi sooner, but lowered top end power (lower than you saw with the original pulley). If you're not okay with using a higher stall or just running the smaller pulley, you may want to consider switching to a different type of supercharger.
