Default AEM Tru Boost experience

I did a search and found some older threads, the only thread with a 2013 he hasn't run it but has it installed.

So who has experience with one and can tell me about how it works? I have an issue with my turbo set up - 5 lb spring in the waste gate and getting a LOT more. Did a test this week and it went to 10 lbs and climbing. So I need something to control the boost better than this spring is doing. IF I keep the turbo, I have to have something that will reliably keep it at 5 lbs (the 3.7 engine does not like 10lbs, learned that the hard way). Does the overboost protection on the AEM Tru Boost reliably open the bov and dump the excess when it spikes over the amount you set?

cant really help you on the AEM stuff. but is your wastegate hooked up correct? it sounds like you are getting boost creep. What gate are you using and what is the placement of the gate . What size turbo are you running? What size pipe is leading to the gate? to small of a gate while tiring to keep boost levels in check can cause this as well as poor placement of the gate. do you run the line off the compressor housing to the gate or are you putting the source line some where else?

It's a turbosmart wastegate, and according to the instructions from Hellion it is connected properly.

placement dose not look bad at all and the pipe size into it looks big enough in the pic. where do you have the pressure line to the gate coming from mine was slow to open then I moved it to the compressor hosing that help a bunch to open sooner then before. have you checked the gate for burrs and to see if it is sticking or binding up. I got a tial gate a 44mm that works fine and will hold my boost to 7 psi. if I want to run it that low and that is with a 80mm turbo. The turbo smart stuff is good stuff too. I run my gate right off that brass fitting on your turbo housing in the pic. Have you tried any other springs?

I haven't tried any other springs - installed it May 2104 and broke it the first time I took it WOT. Let is sit until April 2015 and then installed the new engine. Checked out everything and the spring checks out as the correct one, and the pressure line is hooked up the way that Hellion says to do it. First time I took it to WOT this year, broke another piston in the new engine, and the gauge showed 10lbs when I hit 7K rpm with the 5 lb spring.

try hooking the wastegate hose where I hook mine it wont hurt a thing also if you can get to some unleaded race gas while messing with it it may help not to hurt the engine while you working to get it right then just drop back when you get it worked out. cheaper then putting engines in it.
