I painted mine and just tapped off around them. use index or playing cards to stuff under the brake pad. There is a write up somewhere on here how to do it. The biggest part is to make sure they are very clean before you do it or it will all crack off. i used a wire brush, steel wool, and about half a can of brake cleaner per caliper. then about 4 to 6 light coats of color, then a couple coats of clear gloss.
If you take the rotors off you ahve to bleed your brake lines when you put them back on.
yes, that is pretty much what i did too. not worth removing the calipers, Shadow, unless you are getting them chromed or something. a good masking job will get near the same results. you need something stiff to shove into the voids to cover the pads - i too used playing cards that i cut to shape and worked like a charm. most of the time is in the cleaning and masking...all the actual painting takes less than 30 minutes.
as stated here before, if there is any grease or wax etc on the metal the paint will not adhere, so if you see fisheyes or puddling or any other unusual coverage, you must stop and clean the paint off with brake cleaner and re-prep the surface otherwise all subsequent coats will be a waste. i started the cleaning with soapy water and a nylon brush to get the big dirt off, then went to concentrated Simple Green and shop towels. finally when it all looked clean i used brake cleaner and a metal bristled toothbrush to really get in the crevices. the surfaces were super clean by that point.
if you decide to brush on paint instead, you would spend less time masking and more time painting.
this whole project cost me less than $20: 1 can color($6), 1 can clear($6), 1 can brake cleaner($5), tape and towels.

i've been following this thread and I gotta say, good job! the gold looks really good. I'm considering painting mine but I'm not sure what color would look best for my tungsten grey..

again great job, looks awesome
Same here, i think black would look good on mine now but if i go with black bullitts in the future a brighter color would look better. Then im stuck between normal red (which i can buy at autozone) or redfire which id have to spend more money on the G2 kit.
Been following as well and I have to say, they look awesome! At first I kinda wasn't feelin' it... but I am now. They look great on that car. Makes me wish there was a unique color I could have gone with my calipers....

thank you pcord! with your tungsten, you are wide open - just about any color will look good, IMO. i am too conservative for the red or yellow racing look and i had pretty much narrowed it down to black or charcoal grey and then found the gold and figured it would be fun, especially if i do a metallic gold rocker stripe.

wouldnt be too hard to just repaint 'em when that time comes. ya gotta rotate your tires anyway, so wheels off is 1/3 the job , lol.

thanks, GH! my next door neighbor saw them and said they look like brembo gold brakes, so i looked them up and found this awesome pic:
seeing this pic with the more orangey gold reminds me of a painters' trick of the trade...lay down an undercoat of red before shooting gold and it makes the gold pop. somebody try this - i wish i would have remembered to do that!
