I'm starting to feel the same way about AX. Heck of a lot of time & effort for what you get out of it. The only problem is the road racing opportunities around here aren't much better - one course, which only has 4-5 track days a year.

Just back from a track day at Mosport on the Gran Prix circuit. We could have run for up to 3 1/2 hours for the fee of $325 Canadian!

On Friday we went to the Mosport GP circuit for a lapping day event. Passing was only allowed when you were waved or signaled and only on the front straight, between three and four and on the back straight.

There were two groups of 26 cars with the first group being Novice/Experienced and the other being Advanced. We were in the first group. The mix of cars was interesting and included a Ford GT, GT350R race car, Shelby Cobra replica, Lambo Gallardo, Nissan GTR and a Jeep STR8. Don't laugh about the Jeep it was well driven and pretty fast.

Here is the URL for the event http://www.frankewald.com/

My car was set up with the KDWs at 40 psi hot and the Tokico's at full hard. It ran like a charm. Driving was shared between myself, 8th track day and third at Mosport GP, and my brother, 4th track day in my car but with thousands of laps at Mosport, mainly in Porsches.

Here is the video/data view of my best lap (data logger got confused and segment time is my lap time)

Here is the description of the funny diagram on the left - "Qview™ is an innovative way to visualize the performance of a car as it drives around the track. It combines lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration, and speed differences into a single graphic that is easy to grasp.

Notice that we have switched to a view directly over the car, as if you are a helicopter flying and turning with it. As you scroll forward in time, the track will pass underneath you. The top of the display is the forward direction of the car. The width of each block is proportional to lateral acceleration. The length (in the direction of travel) of each block is proportional to longitudinal acceleration

The inside color is red for braking, blue for accelerating. Intense red is hard braking, intense blue hard acceleration. White means you are neither braking nor accelerating. Blocks are 0.2 seconds apart"

Here is the data/video of my brother's best lap which just happened to be when he was chasing the GTR

As mentioned in my other post this clearly shows the impact the driver has on lap times. I did however pass a Porsche Turbo.

If any of you are interested here are the three videos on my brother's afternoon session in which he passed everything on the track with him except the GTR

The Jeep SRT8 shows up near the start of this video

This one includes the GTR near the end

My next track day is also at Mosport GP on June 17 so I'll have a chance to practice some more. Hopefully I'll get the video sound problem worked out by then.

Nice videos Colin. Who is driving that Jeep...Ron Fellows? Dude looked to be amazingly fast for a...gag...hmm...Jeep. A Jeep passing a 911...wow, thats a new one. None of the clubs I run with allow high CG vehicles like that on the track.

That GT-R is pretty fast eh?

The Jeep was being driven really fast. No idea if it was just a stock SRT8 or was modded at all but I am sure the driver had been around Mosport a few times before

That GTR was fast and so was the driver. There was another GTR at my last event and even I passed it! Again it is more the driver than the car. Heck I even passed a Porsche Turbo twice on Friday

It was a fun event partly because of the large variety of vehicles. At one point the GT350R, Ford GTt and Cobra Replica parked beside each other for a "photo op".

Spent the day at Motor Sport Ranch it is a track that is located near Ft. Worth TX in the town of Cresson. It is about 80 miles from my house.

I spent a lot of time on the track and no time in the grass so overall it was an awesome day. The car ran great did have some overheating issues so I will be doing some upgrades to the cooling system. I didnt go off the track and didnt spin her out.

I learned alot and had a great day. Packed up to head home made it to Irving to stop for gas. Hopped back in and my car was DEAD... No nothing... headlights, instruments, dome light, door locks.. 100% completely dead at the pump. Shoot after the AWESOME day I had nothing could bring me down.

So my track picture for the day is from the Shell station in Irving. Why owning a trailer and towing your car to the track is a good idea.

Soory to hear about your problems on the way home. Hopefully it will turn out to be something simple to fix.

I Googled Motorsport Ranch and it looks like a nice place. Which of the three track configurations did you run?

I especially like the idea of the villas - the available models are called Four Car, Six Car and Eight Car!

I've really been wanting to try out MSR. I figure once I get a couple more days under my belt here at TWS, I'll give it a try.

Motor Sport Ranch is a really nice place but I am not a member that would cost way to much so I go out to track days. We ran the 1.3 the other day while the members were running on the 1.7

Well I checked out my car today and decided to take the battery in to see if for some odd reason it was shot. Tested good so I moved up the line it is a trunk mount so wanted to see if the cables were shorted or a bad ground. Hooked the jumpers up to the connection into the main fuse panel under the hood and everything started working again. Thank god I didnt want to have to tow it to the Ford dealer to get screwed. So I am going to probably replace my trunk mount battery with a light weight battery under the hood and tear out all the cables. I would much rather see the cables so I can inspect them and work on them if needed. Trunk mount battery = bad idea I will just carry my Optima Red Top and some jumpers if for some reason the race battery runs out of juice.

Anyway here is a video of my track day. It is the second run of the day and I was running her in 3rd gear my car is an Auto and not paying attention to the temp gauge banging off the rev limiter and had to come in to let her cool down. Unfortunately my DVR ran out of juice so I didnt get to record anything for the rest of the day which really sucked.
