Default S197 GT Spring Rates and Heights (no guessing allowed)

ALL the REPUTABLE SPRING RATES and LOWERING HEIGHTS are on this thread. This way I, and many others, can make an informed decision. It is my understanding that the FR500 springs use a modified design and wouldn't apply to the typical street car- such as a full coilover setup. This thread excludes full bodied coilovers.

Thanks to SteedaGus and F1Fan (Chip) for helping complete this information.

As of September 2009:

Stock/Factory GT springs (Tags= Yellow, Orange) - front: 136lb/in / rear: 142lb/in

Eibach Pro-kit (pn 35101.140) / Ford Racing (K-springs) (pn M-5300-K) 1.5/1.7 - both variable front: 173-248lb/in / rear: 195-236lb/in

Eibach Sportline (pn 4.10135) 1.6/2.0 - UNKNOWN (*tested by Chip- reportedly very high)

Steeda Ultra-lite (pn 555-8206) 1.25/1.5 front: 195lb/in / rear: 175lb/in

Steeda Sport (pn 555-8216) 1.0/1.25 - front: 200lb/in / rear: 175lb/in

i don't know any of the rates... maybe, since Sam sells a lot of those springs, he may be able to chime in with info? I would be shocked if he didn't have that stuff on file somewhere.

I could have sworn I heard 175f/150r stock but don't quote me on that. Feels about right to me after running Steeda sports and then comps.

H&R Races must be in the 250/200 f/r range. Those springs were so low and so tight!

Thanks. I am still hunting for a few more spring rates.

The COMMON (aka Yellow and Orange) stock GT springs are softer than you think- 136/142. There are several springs depending on options that Ford uses.

I've talked to KC quite a bit too. The Bullitt springs are FR: Orange - GA; RR: Light Blue - AC.

I think it's basically done for now. H&R holds there spring rates closely to their chest. I can't seem to find them. Send me a message or post it if you have them.

Is there a specific spring you're looking for?

Im getting more and more certain that the rear springs on a 2010 GT are 2005-2009 GT500 Springs. Not only are they 166 lb/in but the 2010 sits 0.5" higher than the 2005-2009. I was at the dealers measuring and I get a consistent 7.5" from ground to lowest point on the front LCA bolt on 2009 but 8.0" on the 2010.

The GT500 rear springs have exactly the same free length (by measurements) as the BB Data Plate (BC Spring) that came on my base GT Deluxe. So to me it appears it would have to have a taller installed height since its 17% stiffer.

Precisely, since the weight of the car would compress it less.

There's a possibility there. Ford really seems to have many different spring choices for the S197. For the 2010, it wouldn't surprise me if the rear springs were the older GT500 ones (purple or light gray in color). I think there's only two rear spring choices for the 07-09 GT500. Any other color would indicate a GT spring (white, yellow, orange, blue, etc.).

The BMR springs are 1.25"/1.50". I sent them an email regarding spring rates (constant or working). Interestingly, they use the same style (hourglass) rear springs that Ford designed.
