Default GT/CS Tire width on stock rims?

I have a 2007 GT/CS with stock rims. The tires on it are factory and they are 235/50-18. I really want to put some Nitto 555s or NT05s on it without having to change rims. Nitto has the 555s in 255, and I was wondering if my stock 8.5 inch wide rims can take 255/45-18s or even 255/40-18s, or if that would be pushing it. Any advice?

255/45's on 18 x 8.5 rims is OK.

I cannot find 255/40-18 in NT555, although I can in the Invo line (it's OK on 8.5" wide).

I use the same wheels for my winter wheels and I have 255/45/18 on them. I have even put 275/45/18 drag radials on them for the track before although I will admit that is a bit wider than you should go. I just couldn't find any other DR in the right size. Still worked great and hooked like hell

255/45/18 are perfect for that rim

You can never have too much power, just not enough traction.

EF,

The Kooks definately add some growl to my sound, and increase the low freq noise. People will know when you show up or leave a party, because they will hear you coming through the walls. The catted H gives it a deeper growl than the catted X in my opinion. My buddy (Trigger06) has the catted x-pipe and it sounds very racy, whereas the catted H gives it more of a muscle car growl. It gets really loud at around the 3500-6000 RPM range under load, (not just revving while parked), and my buddy tells me it sounds awesome screaming by. It is by no means too loud.

Just replaced my tires with the NT555s on Tuesday. They fit the CS fine.
