Default Mustang VS Camaro/Jones VS Donahue

The September 2009 issue of Automobile Magazine it has an interesting article with a track test of a 2010 Mustang driven by PJ Jones versus a 2010 Camaro SS driven by David Donahue.

At least it was interesting for someone old enough to remember the orginal Mustang/Jones versus Camaro/Donahue battles.

Sounds cool, I'll have to see if I can find that. The sons take up where the fathers left off.

Read the article, was cool to see that donahue actually admitted that the mustang was much more "fun" to drive then the Camaro. He even went as far as to say that the car would not "turn in" like the stang. this maybe the only and last time i read an article where the editors actually don't hands down give the nod to the bow tie. Tie!

What was interesting was that the Mustang was considered to handle better than the Camaro - even though it has a solid axle and the Camaro has IRS.

I think that's been consistently noted in all of the comparisons, not just Automobile's.

Has anyone come across a new Camaro on a road course yet?

Nope - I haven't seen the Challenger or the new Camaro out there yet. Saw a couple SRT Chargers, one guy was surprisingly quick for such a boat.

The director of my local auto x club is a GM and F-body fan who rejected the new Camaro shortly after buying it. He related that it excels as a comfortable, fast cruiser but has no potential for Auto X or HPDE events. He noted wheels were a problem, you can't get many extreme performance tires in 20" and no R-comps, AFAIK. Then of course there is the matter of the 3850 lbs of heft. I pray the mustang doesn't ballon into those proportions.

Here's the quote from the article I like best!
Next, the drivers swap cars. When this session is over, Donohue is the guy wearing the big smile. "Just driving down pit lane, the Mustang seemed much lighter," he says. "The low-speed grip is so much better, and you can toss it into the corner sideways." Jones, on the other hand, looks worn out by the Camaro. "It's a pig," he says bluntly. "The brakes are much better, but it just won't turn. The Mustang is a lot more fun to drive."
