No one wished me good luck ?! ...

I see why I had a lil problem on the track ! j/k

Will I did what u guys told me & the car was good & I had alot of fun ! ... Thanks ALOT ! ...

The problem was that when I completed the fourth lap suddenly the fuel gauge dropped & I had a "low fuel" massege on my dash boared ... I slow down & I noticed the temp gauge is befor the H ! ... & after I let the car cool down every thing was fine ! ......I was lil worried so I went home early ... & on the way going home the car was fine ...like nothing had happened !

Now I'm thinking whats caused this problem ? is it the tune I'm using wich is Bama Race tune ,or maybe the fuel pump or filter? or what?

Thanks guys these r some pics :

Luck is for rabbits; I was rooting for you to just drive the damn thing.

I'm glad to hear you had a great time; I can live vicariously through those who still have the weather to take their cars out. Chicago is done buddy.

Anyway, the fuel gauge thing is probably normal. First, were you on your 4th LAP or 4th SESSION? If the later, then you probably were low on fuel (assuming you didn't refuel during the day). Lapping the car guzzles gas at an insane rate (I get somewhere on the order of 6-8 mpg when on track). Once the fuel gets below half tank or so, you'll start to see the needle swing wide and she starts to beep at you. Most folks I've heard just keep track of their fuel and live with the annoying beeps. I've found that though the gauge needle swings wildly, the computer keeps accurate track of the "fuel used," so that's an easy way to monitor your true fuel level.

As for the heat, this topic recently came up. I forget the link, so a search is in order. I had a similar problem earlier this year; first time in 4 years of track days. I flushed the coolant, put in a new hi-po stat (160 deg), and watched my shift points the next time out. No problem now.

As I was thinking through it back then, I had either prematurely exhausted my coolant's service life with extra hard driving, had a bad stat (checked this, it turned out fine), or was shifting way too late (losing both power and unnecessarily stressing the engine)...or a combination of all the above. At any rate, I did 4 or 5 more track events after the first over-heating incident and haven't had a problem since.

Hope that helps.
Best,
-j

Hey HateBreeder,

That looks like a very nice facility. What track is it?

The fuel issue is common. The fuel tank has two lobes with the fuel level sensor on the passenger side and the fuel pump on the driver side. All the tracks I drive on are clockwise so the fuel gets pushed to the driver side (fuel pump side, which is good) and away from fuel level sensor side when the level gets to about a half tank. You still have plenty of gas but you'll get the low fuel indicator and annoying chime. I take a couple five gallon gas cans to the track with me and throw one in after every two or three sessions.

I've never had the overheating problem you're experiencing (thankfully). Do you open your hood after the run session to let the engine bay cool off? If not, I'd recommend doing so next time.

Philostang: It was only the 4th lap not session ,but I was able to chaise a Lotus Elise S/C ,I tailed him until he oversteered then I passed him !...I felt that my mods worhted every penny ! .... I'll check the stat ...maybe I need 160 deg stat ... Thanks

Red06: The track is clockwise ,its Bahrain track :

http://www.bahraingp.com/en/experiences/track/cars/

& I slow down on the 4th lap to cool down the car & brakes ...then I stoped, opend the hood & let the car running for few min ... checked every thing even I pluged my SCT tuner <<< I was very worryed ! ...& the car was fine ...Maybe chaising the da*n Lotus & our hot weather let the car heat ... Man he was pis*ed when he found out I'm driving an auto lol ...
& Now I'm hopping I might need a new temp stat I'm still using the stock stat...

I'm planing to enter the track next month... the weather will be lil cold & hopfully no rain !...No way I'm driving in the rain ! ...Thanks Red06

Hey HB,

Wow, that Bahrain track looks awesome! And I bet it was hot.

A buddy of mine in TX has had trouble with overheating when he runs in the upper 90s to 100+ degree weather. He upgraded his radiator and never had another problem. Since you already have an upgraded radiator, you might want to first go through the basics and see if it helps. That's some quick overheating you're getting, so I would first make sure your system is in good basic operating condition (fluid is topped off/was properly vented of air bubbles, stat is working/poss. 160, hoses are not collapsing).

If the tune you're running is really aggressive, that might be a contributor to the problem (esp. in the far reaches of the upper RPM range). Easy way to check is to drop your shift point to something like 5,500 rpm and see if she still overheats. You could also easily switch to a different tune (maybe back to stock or to the least aggressive one you have), then shift at your usual point and see if the problem persists.

I might also add what I forgot to mention earlier, that is that I also picked up a CDC billet grille (Roush is the same), and it is VERY open. The stock grill is very restrictive, and though the radiator support is also restrictive, you'll still get much more air in there if you go with a better front grille (CDC, Roush, Agent47).

Beyond that, you could also ditch the hood liner (let more heat dissipate through the aluminum hood), get a new hood w/vents, or just don't drive in 95+ deg. weather? FWIW, I would rather not drive in very hot weather than not drive in the rain. Drive in the rain. It will do you good. This by forcing you to learn better car control.

Best,
-j

sam im gunna want new pads pretty soon, I have done the GT500 front brake kit and have stillen pads in the rear. What would you reccomend for a daily driver which wants as much stopping power as possible without crazy wear and dust? The pads that came with the GT500 brakes dust like crazy but my rear wheels are always nice and shiney lol

id say its great if the car is your daily, good gas mileage and then power once you get into boost. for the track its great if you can keep it in 2nd or 3rd above 3000 rpm then theres definitly enough power for me its making 426 rwhp and 416 trq right now, looking into more suspension mods

I see ,Mine is a DD & so now I'm thinking of giting the Vortech,u know to pass the da*n Lotus Elise again not just chaising him & waiting for a mistake! ...
& I'm still using the stock 3.33 dif on my auto (I have a lil dif install fobia! ) ...do u think a 3.73 dif would be good for a DD & the track? ..& maybe a track custom tune would keep my RPM neer boost ?
or rather then spend the mony on a s/c ...I should just try to buy a second hand manual gear ?

Thanks for ur reply...
