I have my strut mounts and hardware on the way. Does anyone have the torque specs for tightening the nuts on these? I'm considering just buying a Haynes or Chilton repair manual.

Don't waste your time w/ Chilton/Haynes. You can find most of the information via online resources or purchase the official Ford manual on DVD media from one of the several outlets (google it) or ebay. I have a pretty good feel for torque specs after working on cars for years and rarely get the torque wrench out other than major engine/suspension parts. Not trying to get anyone hurt with bad advice, but snug that top nut down pretty good, without trying to kill it and you'll be fine. Mine loosened a bit several times from suspension settling. I generally climb under the car to retorque (check) everything every few months anyway. It's a good habit...

Thanks. I've googled it, but didn't come up with anything. I'm pretty sure I had it tight enough, but forgot to change mounts when I swapped struts and springs.

No need to feel dumb. It's all out there if you know what to search for. And best bet is to just purchase the ford service manual DVD for your car...

The strut nut was about one turn loose but not loose enough to move by hand.

I had the clunking noise and tried the GT500 strut mounts to no avail. Last week I ordered the updated mounts, part # 8r3z-18183-b. I didn't have high expectations that they would fix the problem since I couldn't spot any difference from the original or the GT500 mounts save for the length and color of the 4 mounting studs.

They must have changed something though since they did fix the thunk.
