Default Tire Size Question

Simple...what size tire can i put on a 17x7.5 rim, It may be 17x8 I would have to check, but whats the meatyest tire for out back i can put.

im not concerned about the fronts, i want a wider, meatier tire outback for grip, looks, stance, and to fill the well a little more

I think all of the stock 17" wheels on the S197 were 8" wide. I beleive you'll find that most tire manufacturers recommend no wider than a 245 or 255 series tire on an 8" wheel. Check the specs on most any tire website.

About the only choice wider than 235/55 that fits 8" wide wheels is 255/50-17, which is still only 27" tall. But at least there are a few of these to choose from.

There are a couple of 255/55's that would also fit 8", and there is one Firestone tire in 265/55 that's also mfr-OK'd for 8". However, having very little to choose from in either of those sizes might not be a good position to put yourself in, as it suggests that there isn't much demand for them as it is now (never mind later).
