Default GT500 Hood Vent

I know it isn't a handling mod per se, but since this is a subforum that appreciates function over form more than others, I figured it would fit best here. It does also completely eliminate *any* hood shudder at speed and noticeably drops engine temps on the track (and street), which is a nice benefit for track goers. Oh mama, I did it. Finally cut into the hood and installed the GT500 vent. After prepping the vent with the dremel and belt sander, I made a paper template and centered it up. Then centered it up again. And again.

I used 3M urethane windshield adhesive to stick it in place, weighted it overnight, and so far it has held up just fine around town and on track with no sign of expansion/contraction related warpage. I'll post an update if it flies off.

And the obligatory post-***** track picture:

The surprise tech for me was that I am now seeing a consistent 10-15 deg F reduction in temperatures. The hood vent was the only change made. I didn't go over 200 deg F on the track--a very nice surprise for a $45 modification. Thanks to the guys on cornercarvers.com for first doing this.

Good install. I had overheating problems this summer, even with the new radiator, and have been looking at that mod. However I think that I'm going to race CMC2 next year and the rules do not allow any hood vents at all.

Nice pics, that almost looks centered.

Heh, heh. I'm sure you've been following the cc.com thread.

I got it from Clevenger Ford for $45. Tough to resist at that price. Worst case if it didn't work was having to buy a vented hood.

Can't take credit for any of it--there is a great thread on cornercarvers.com where this was done by a few first with pre-S197's, then someone jumped in with an S197 (but installed it off center and has faced endless ribbing over it )

I've been looking at alternatives for venting my car which has an SC and this looks like a good solution.

Keep us advised how it holds up on the track.

How far back did you mount it?

How did you decide where to mount it it?

thanks for the link. I've been contemplating hood vents since I bought my car...but I was hoping more for 1 on each side...but Shelby won't sell them, and refuses to give me a part #
