I have 285/40/18 on 18 x 9.5 x 45 mm offset rims all round and they didn't rub when the car wasn't lowered.

Note that if you put really wide tires on the front you may experience "tramlining"

It's when your tires get pulled in some direction by imperfections in the roadway, not very fun. For instance if there is a crack in the asphalt on the freeway your tires will track it and take you for a ride, lol.

I've heard that a lot about wide tires, but I've never experienced it in the year I've had mine on.

We have really ****ty roads in Louisiana, when I slap my 275/40/18 NT-01's on 18x9.5 Steeda Ultralites they tramline pretty bad. It partly because of the NT-01's but partly because of the wider tire as well.

Here is the definition of Tramlining per Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramlining

Just south of where I live there is a section of road that with my 255/45/18 snow tires I don't feel anything but when I go down it with the 285/40/18 KDW2 summer tires I think there is something wrong with my car

Once you know what it is you get get used to it. It also requires you pay more attention while driving, which is not a bad thing.

I got 18x10 +40 all around with 315/30/18 Hoosier A6's all around. 8mm spacer up front to keep the tires off the struts.
