ford dealer and sway bar bolts
I figured id post this somewhere. I went to the ford dealer near my house the other day because being the newb I am I wasn't sure if I needed new bolts for my rear sway bar. So I went by the parts department to see how much they were. A total of 6 bolts and 6 nuts where (drum roll please) $110. I looked at the person behind the counter asked if they were serious. They were. I left laughing. Any others had this experience?

Ford Dealers charge a hefty mark-up for those parts. I usually purchase nuts and bolts on-line from Team Ford Parts or Silver State Ford Parts.com at a good discount. Sometimes I can navigate through the on-line illustrations to find the part but often that's difficult for hardware. I'll either call or email them for the part numbers and then order on-line. They have a very knowledgable staff.

I paid $3.25 US for those bolts at Silver State. The nuts were $6.80 each. Price sure adds up fast when you order a bunch of hardware though.

Just reuse them, this is just a cash grab. Been running reused hardware for 2 years and a few dozen autocross sessions and several drag days without any problems. Retorque to spec and use blue locktite.
When you hold the bolts in your hand, you realize you will never stretch them with the factory torque specs.
Moreover, I am friends with Ford Dealer (he is son of the owner and SVT manager) and his shop reuses all hardware when doing suspension work. All of other S197 corner carvers I know also reused their hardware.

If you replace the suspension hardware, I suggest getting the proper ones from Ford. That way you have the proper hardness grade and size. It's not worth the money saved when you can get the right hardware from discount suppliers like Team Ford Parts and Silver State Ford Parts.

so i figured out why ford thinks it can chrage so much for bolts. I ventrured all over my area looking for these bolts. they turned out to be 10mm carriage bolts and they are practically mythical.
