Best rim/tire setup for handling on the street with full suspension done
Hi All,
I have 20" Chrome Shelby rims on the car right now. They are HEAVY. Kills at least 10 rwhp...
What is the best size rim/tire setup for the S197?
Also best overall quality rims and tires to start looking at.
I have been seeing that no one considers a 20" rim for anything other than looks.
I am guessing a staggered setup 18X9 front 245/??/18 and 18X9.5 rear 285/??18 or 19X9 front 245/??/18 and 19X9.5 rear 285/??18
Thanks!

"Full suspension done" isn't very descriptive.
For street handling I really think you want all four wheels and tires to be the same sizes, with the possible exception being if you're running some sort of power adder. Keep in mind that while there is a demand for greater rear tire grip for acceleration purposes, the fact that the car is slightly nose-heavy becomes a demand for greater front tire grip to get the thing to turn. If you know what you're doing, it is possible to tune the suspension around a staggered tire setup, but I doubt that's where your "full suspension done" sits.
FWIW, I'm happy enough with 18 x 9.5" (GT500) rims with 255/45-18 tires (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics) for the warmer half year to maybe three seasons to recommend that combination for street driving where ambient temperatures rarely fall below 40°F. Those wheels certainly aren't the lightest available, but the 1" width increase over the 18 x 8.5" GT wheel is more than worth the weight penalty.

I'm running Enkei PF01s 18 x 9.5 x 35 offset for track use. They are light and strong.

I have 480 rwhp, so I would like to have as much tire in the rear as possible, but if I can fit a 275/40/18? all around, that could work.
Thanks!

Don't mind me if I jack this thread a bit, but I was wondering if anyone can find ANYTHING wrong with this wheel at all:

TSW Interlagos. Very lightweight. Reasonably prized for the sizes offered. Adequate offsets.
I'm thinking on getting these wheels on the next tire change but I haven't seen any mustangs with them yet.

Don't get those. I don't want to see anybody else with those wheels. I mean a 23.5lb front and 24.5lb rear wheel is too light the car will float away when the roads are wet. And nobody likes a wheel with flat spokes and so many spokes that can't be good five is the only number Mustang owners like.

908: Let me know when you're going to come down to Cincinnati to give me your car. For serious, it's like the 2010 version of what I want my car to be. Those wheels look great and are quite light.
EDIT: How cow those are cheap! $250/wheel for a 21 pound 18x10.5!? Wow.
