I'd say it was a very astute move on BMW's part to push that sort of technology in a track driving scenario.

Volvo is developing a "no-crash" technology that apparently does not rely on GPS at all. Bet it wouldn't be nearly as much fun (or instructive) at places like LS, VIR, etc.
