SCCA Autocross Prep for FS?
#41
Whiskey11 is right about how hard it is to compete in STX. But I think it is possible to be competitive. Two weeks ago I was at an auto-x event that had the top five street tires and R-compound tires do another run in a fast five run. I was under a second, raw time, from the fastest street tire competitor. With PAX I was able to nudge past him. Fast Five Results There are some good racers in the region that I race but someday I plan to travel to a national event and see how I would really stack up against fully prepared STX cars. I think having the extra HP than my competition helps me stay competitive with my heavier car.

Just started the season up here in the Toronto area as part of CASC-OR. We've adapted the SCCA classification for Solo2 as well. I had my 1st event this past Sunday at Mosport DDT and was placed in STX. It really only had 1 slalom component and the rest was track. I was the only fully stock car in the class while everybody (predominantly Subaru legacy's, BMW 3 series and RX-8s) had suspension mods. Still managed to place 7th in a field of 20 in the class, so not bad, but I echo the comments on how hard it was.
May be off topic, but I just watched my in-car video and my rear tires (more my rear right) are squeeling with every left turn while in a slalom. On the track parts it's fine, it seems to only happen on the sudden change of direction of a slalom. Any idea how to remedy this or cause it (misalignment somehow)? as it's evidence of lost traction. Again, my car is fully stock.

Did the slalom feel loose one way and tight the other? If so, an adjustable panhard bar will help and a Watts Link will cure. Choose one or the other. You don't need both. One thing I love about my Fays2 Watts Link is that both sides react equally and you don't have any of the arcing motion inherent with a panhard setup. Congrats for 7th place in a field that large. It won't take much to get you in the top 3.
