Default Tire Options. Please respond

I have an 05 gt that I just bought new rims for. The rims are the 18's that came on the 2010 shelby convertible. I've been looking for new rubber and unless I hear something better I'm gonna go with the Goodyear supercar 255/45/18 all the way around. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Take a look at the Continental Extreme Contact.

I just ordered a set yesterday. TireRack.com let's you do a direct comparison between these two (and others). Continental was the obvious choice to me.

By the way, I have the same wheels and went 285/40 in the back. 255/45 in front.

Something for you to consider...many others are going 275/45's all the way around for better handling.

"285/40 in the back. 255/45 in front" - this is the early GT500 factory setup. Tires are both 27" diameter

"many others are going 275/45's all the way around for better handling" - 285/40 also fit all round with only very slight rubbing on full lock on 18 x 9.5 x 45 mm rims.

The wider the front tires the more likely you are going to sufferr from tramlining.

This. I run 275 all the way around with -1.5 camber and my stang tramlines hard, especially if the road is uneven.

Definitely check out the Continentals (extreme contact DW). I have a set that I use as my street tires and as my "rain" tires for the race track. This is a relatively inexpensive tire and the bang-for-the-buck is unbelieveable. In the rain they are stupendous (they are not Hoosier HWETs of course, but they are damn good). In the Dry: using Traqmate I compared new DWs to new Toyo R888s (an R-compound racing tire) on Shenandoah race track. The Toyos were only 2-3 seconds per lap quicker. By the time the Toyos had ~10 track days on them, at VIR the Conti's were every bit as fast. Overall a big thumbs up. Sure there are quicker street tires available but at much higher cost and shorter life. These things rock.

I came accross someone selling the gt 500 rims with the continental extreme tires that are virtually new. It' s staggered 255/45/18 in the front and 285/40/18 in the rear. Any driveability concerns putting them on a. 05 gt vert.

Lucky dog. I'm looking for a set now too. My only concern would be if you want to rotate. If the price is right, I would set that concern aside. If you look on tirerack, the Goodyears don't get very good reviews.

None that I can think of, other than probably understeering a bit more up toward the limits of tire cornering grip. Which is probably a good idea given that I think you have a nitrous setup.

255/45's on 18x9.5's all around is certainly do-able. Truth is, that's my "3-season" setup. Goodyear Asymmetrics in my case (the 255/45-18's at least were on close-out at Tire Rack last time I checked).
