No ABS v6 to 2012+ GT brakes conversion
Hi everyone, I'm about to do the brake conversion on my base V6 to the newer GT take off brakes off ebay but I'm confused what I do and don't need. The search results I found have me still uncertain..
I remember seeing a post a while back that those who have no ABS need special adapters for a brake upgrade, i cannot find this thread now, or is my memory incorrect?
also, I figured I'd probably call up the junkyards around town to see if they have the brake brackets for the GT, but I also don't know if i need specific pre-2009 brake bracket or post-2009. Can anyone chime in?
lastly, while I'm in there, is there anything else I need to change? maybe upgrading to SS brake lines?
thanks for tolerating my ignorance.

First of all I would definitely recommend SS brake lines. Even if you don't go to the track they will be more durable than OEM setup.
Here is what you/ll need to perform the swap. (I swapped my factory calipers with GT500 brembos)
*Im not sure on the brake sizes and specs for 2011+'s but below are the sizes and parts for 05-10 S197 GT conversion*
- Larger 12.4 GT rotors
- GT caliper brackets. (the actual calipers themselves are the same as GT's)
- SS or New brake lines (front)
- New higher DOT4 temp fluid if you want (recommend but not necessary)
- New pads (recommend but not necessary)
I was able to make my SS brake lines work using some adapters from Fedhill USA. The passenger side lines on a non abs car are the same as an abs car so installation is no problem. The drivers side is where it is different. There is no abs distribution block so two lines come from the master cylinder and go to the front drivers side and rear drivers side. From there, the top of the front drivers brake line had a block on the top of it where a line splits off and goes to the passenger side,
(the side port it from the master and the top port goes to the passenger side)
where no modification is needed to install the SS brake line. It's the same for the rear. To make everything fit, you need to replicate this block.
The parts you need:
FedHill USA: 10mmx10.0 3 way Female Tee NEED 2, front and rear.
FedHill USA: 10mmx1.0 Union Need 2, one for each Tee
and some bolts/washers/nuts of your choice to mount the Tee.
Finished product, its the same for the rear all that is different is you need to trim one of the line mounts to clear the Tee.
if for whatever reason you are changing the rear calipers this process also has to be done to the driver side. IIRC
Good luck. hope this helped!
