I just thought it would be tough for an alignment to be done while on the alignment machine with all that weight on the struts (car not lifted). Seems like it would be difficult for the tech to loosen the bolts and make the adjustment needed while the car is on the machine.

The alignment machine has a means to lift up the front end allowing the tech to make the necessary adjustments and then lower it to take measurements.
