05-09GT vs 2011 V6 PP
#3
Good question! On paper they do look close, the 11 V6 has a 6 speed vs the 5 speed on the V8s, that would help keep it in it's power band. The 11 V6 is extremely well balanced-front to rear is close to 50-50. I'd say it's up to the driver and the condition of the tires and brakes. Tighter turns might favor the V6, longer straights might favor the V8.

had a guy running a 2010 or so v6 in our local autocross last year. Had koni yellows , sway bars , cc plates, cold air intake with tune and strut tower bar. He was always about a sec or two behind me and at that time i had h&r springs and stock dampers with crap tires. One thing he said was his mid rpm power was sluggish. Power wise the v8 has the plus, its able to move the cars weight better.

I'd say if you are not likely to mod the car much and it will be mostly a DD with light track use, to go with the V6. The more you want to build a track car, the older GT will make more sense for cost effectiveness. Reduced risk for maintenance cost issues are also a plus with a newer car.
There is also driver preference. A momentum driver will do just fine with the V6. Gearing on the MT-82 is a bit wide IMO for the V6, and power is best if kept in the upper range. Not a problem for a hot shoe, but it's a lot of work for an average HDPE driver. The older V8 is easier to drive in the wrong gear and can be fast even if lugged around a bit.
I've been considering both for a dedicated track car build. I'm leaning towards a '12 V6 PP. Mostly for the weight savings (target build to sub 3,000 lb.) and I already have lots of '11+ parts. Doesn't hurt that I have a friend with a car coming off lease in a few months...

I think you're right about using lower gears on the V6, meant to mention that, but the V6 PP should come with 3.31 stock.
