gt500 brake upgrade
#11
If anyone is looking for new I can do the Ford Racing kits for the following prices.
M-2300-S 14" front upgrade, $1098.90 plus shipping.
M-2300-T complete '13 GT500 conversion, $1754.00 shipped anywhere in the lower 48.
I can also get any individual parts direct from Ford if you need help piecing a kit together.

You're really going to want to check with Steeda. When I was buying rims they directed me to the Pentars rather than the Ultras and I'm pretty sure brake clearance was the reason. I dont even think they sell Ultras in 18" for S197 any more and that could be part of why.

And here is a pic I managed to find of the series 1 ultra-lite in chrome and I am pretty sure that is a 14" brake kit behind them. I could be wrong though.

Just got my gt500 take-offs in. Do I need different brake lines for these brembo brakes than I do for the stock GT ones b/c I want to run stainless lines like I have now, not the stock lines.
EDIT: Think I can answer my own question by checking my old brake lines against the ones on the brembos, doh.

I have Goodridge lines. Gonna try tomorrow and see what's up. The GT stock lines are the exact same as the Brembo stock lines so they should work.

Goodridge lines worked fine and I would assume any GT line would work for the Brembo brakes.
They work great. Had some overspray on the rotor that needs to wear off from painting the hubs so they won't rust.
Before:
After:
I have over 1/2" clearance to the inside of the rim and over 1" clearance of the inside of the spokes.

So the install was easy and they work great. I painted the rotors and then wore them in (scraped all the overspray off with some hard braking and let the pads bed in). I can just lay on the brakes now and, instead of the ABS kicking in and my butthole winking at my seat, the front end just dives and I do all I can to keep from hitting my steering wheel with my teeth from the smile on my face while doing it.
I just took them back off after making sure they were in working condition still and broke them down to parts. Good thing, driver side large piston had a tear in the dust boot. Nothing big but since I need to paint them I may as well rebuild them. On to why I am making this post. I found several kits online. One from this place called Girodisc (click link for kit). $48 a kit and you need 2 kits. Then I went to o'reillys website... BrakeBest kit is $8 a piece! Am I paying for quality with the Girodisc kit or are they just ripping people off because they deal in "performance" parts? Does anyone know of a good kit that I should consider?

After bead blasting. Just stuffed the piston sockets with paper towel wadding and then used duct tape to mask them off instead of masking tape so it would hold. Blasted on low pressure to minimize damage:
Drew up the brembo logo in CAD. I'm gonna measure and scale this then print it out and transfer it via hand to some thing plastic probably. I could use the waterjet but it's easy enough to do by hands.:
7:30PM Edit:
Few spots. Gonna let it dry and spray the other pieces then let them dry and then spray the insides. After that I will get rid of all the defects and do a final coat then spray the logo on. Forwent the body filler for the scratches and gouges, just too much pita to bother with, plus I am trying to make this a weekend project if possible.
I also realized that since I am painting them red I am going to have to take the rears off and paint them red as well, it just wouldn't look right if I didn't.
I still haven't bought a rebuild kit. Trying to get the boots through ford so I can get brembo brand boots. Either that or I think I'm gonna try the $8 kit. If it sucks it's only $8 down the drain.
