I had an issue very much like this that came up after an autocross at the local airfield/ jungle. I ended up pulling the caliper and rotor in a Walgreens parking lot and found that a small rock had lodged between the end of the caliper and the pad compound, causing the rock to contact the rotor surface. That being said, weird things happen with a startling regularity around me.
