How many quarts of 75W-140 Gear Oil to use?
Hi All...I am installing the Whiteline Watts Link on my 2011 Mustang GT...How many quarts of Royal Purple 75W-140 Gear Oil do I need to use...some sites sell a 2 quart kit w/ Friction Modifier while other sites note that you need 3 quarts for 8.8" Ford rear ends :
2 Quarts + friction modifier:

3 Quarts required:
http://www.americanmuscle.com/royalp...0-gearoil.html
Also, do you need the Friction Modifier since the RP Max already has Friction Modifer mixed in it?

The manual says 4.0 pints, so 2.0 quarts. I've done this twice when changing to the Boss/GT500 FRPP diff cover, and it seems like it's slightly more than 2 quarts; I'd order 3 to be on the safe side. Also not sure if the shape of the WL diff cover would change the capacity?
I will say that on both my 2010 and my 2014 I used RP 75W-140 and no friction modifier was necessary. Seems like some folks end up needing it, but most don't.

I would think that the watts link instruction manual/paper would say how much it needs since it is replacing the stock diff cover with it's own. Best bet would be to try calling whoever sold you the parts if the instructions don't say.
