Default How long did your ball joints last?

Group,

Just taking a bit of a poll on your stang. I have an 07 with 31,000 miles and Just had to replace the lower ball joints. Is this common or did I get some bad ones?

Sam

I've heard them to be a weak point, but I've got around 41,000 miles on mine (including a dozen track days and a handful of autocross runs) and they still seem to be OK.

I put GT500 front lower control arms on my '09 at 81k miles, and the original ball joints were still fine. Tie rod ends were also still fine, although I did replace outers with some greasable Moog tie rod ends.

HaHa. I see things haven't changed much since I owned my '66 Mustang. I owned it from '76 to '86, put 40k miles on it. I replaced the upper ball joints 2-3 times. I can still hear the creaking noise that they made.

I only have 10k on the 2012 I bought in February, so I haven't had any problems.

I replaced my front control arms at 115K because the bushings were showing some tearing. No issues with the ball joints. But, my outer tie rods were pretty well shot.

How do you know when they're bad? I've got 77k miles on my GT and I have not changed them.

28,xxx and change on our 2008 GT and no slack in ball joints yet.

Been reading about them in threads so I endeavor to check them when I do oil changes or any other service that sees it near a jack that I think about it. Their life expectancy depends a lot on roads and environment and driver conditions .... though some of it may be "batches".
