Default First oil change story

My GT500 has 2800 km on it so I went to the Ford dealer and purchased 7 quarts of mobil1 and a FRPP high performance filter, then when I got to my friends shop to do the change the filter was defective?? One of the holes on the bottom had a ball bearing and was pressed between the rim and the housing with a small piece if metal. This did not look normal to me so I went back to the dealer with the Gt500 still on the hoist with all the oil drained and they tell me Oh ya, thats ok, normal!! WHAT!!!!!!!!
After quizzing him he finally went and brought me another filter and low and behold, NO BEARING SMUGED IN IT!! WOW!! These people work at a dealership and could have cost me a motor????

That's why I do my own oil changes. 6.5 qts of Syntec every 3K (overkill I know). These oil change guys are not techs. They offered me my first one for free and I said no thanks. Oil changes are so easy anyway.

Very disturbing indeed!!! Wonder what really would have happened if that filter had been installed on your car?

Mine was the 2nd oil change--first one was done by selling dealer--2nd by local dealer. Thank goodness, before they drained the oil they went to pull the new oil....only had 4 quarts. Then, I wanted them to rotate and balance the tires.....he comes in and says, you can't rotate those tires. I said, why not? Well, the front ones won't go on the back.....and he looks at me like this is the first time he's ever heard of different size tires on the front and rear.....finally he says, we can just move them side to side. Fine, I say and watch him carefully as he does and torques the lugs down correctly. I think his name was Jethro......

I am very afraid of dealerships!! To many negative experiences!! Won't chance it with my GT500 unless there is absolutely no choice, eg. major warranty work I HOPE NOT!!

Absolutely scarey. If I can't watch, they can't touch. I've been doing my own oil changes (and most other work) since I bought my first new car in 1978.
