Default Shelby GT500 Owner Observations

Hey Folks, I am the new owner of a 2008 White & Alloy Shelby. I love the car and have noticed a few things that I want to bounce off of other owners:
The brakes are the car are amazing, but they generate a lot of brake dust that covers my wheels within a day or two.The car gets dirty quickly especially the rear panel with the tail lamps (apparently from the brake dust).Shifting off the line can be tricky, if you don't press the accelerator hard enough, it will stall. The car almost begs to be driven a little rougher than your average car.Shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear is always a little clunky.

I ripped a side stripe at the car wash last night so now I will have to go to the dealer and get it replaced.

I love the car, and would love to socialize with other SoCal Shelby GT500 owners.

Thanks...

The brake dust is something you will have to live with. After the wheels are clean, I wax with normal car wax. Helps reduce dust collection.

If you want to get hooked into everything Shelby (more So Cal owners, track events, mods etc) ...you need to join the club here.

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your purchase. I recently bought my 08 gt500. I did fix the brake dust issue by replacing my pads with Hawk HPS pads. Virtually no dust and they do bite harder than the stock pads. As for the clunking, you're gonna have to get used to that also. It comes from the slop in the drivetrain, a few millimeters of movement laterally and forward/backward on the driveshaft.

Thank you for your responses. I am going to register on Team Shelby today, as well as post in the new member area. I love my car, I got it new on 04.24.09 and I am finally getting used to the size (I am coming from a 2003 Civic).

I have always wanted a Camaro, Mustang, or a Firebird and it is nice to finally own one!

I just replaced the front pads for now as the rears are not really dusting. But I got them from lethalperformance.com. The brembo calipers make for pretty easy install too!
