Thinking about getting rid of my 2012 5.0 in favor of a 2010 GT500

Everyone will have their opinions....
All I know is I spent less than what a fully loaded new GT cost for my car. I have dumped about $4k or so into it in performance goodies when running a '11/'12 GT with a procharger and built engine making low 6xx horsepower and I was showing him tail-lights. That was carrying a 320lb passenger as well. Now I have the lower pulley, offroad x, and longtubes and still have not touched any of the internals. So I'm probably about 80rwhp more than I had there. There is no telling how much money he had dumped into his.
If you're looking to stay stock GT hp levels then go with the GT, if you want to go fast reliably, get the GT500.

Dyno comparison, weight comparisons and some 1/4 track runs with good traction and trap speeds would make it a more valid competition. And if the GT's engine is built right he can probably bump the boost way up and take more hp than the stock engine internaled gt500. Some 5.0 forged rotationg assemblies can take 1000+ hp.
How much HP can the stock gt500's engine take before rods etc needs to be replaced?
Actually I suppose the GT500 is actually a better deal overall for higher HP numbers due to a more beefy transmission and other benefits. That is if you want a manual transmission. GT auto transmission is great from what ive read.

In the runs I was at 650rwhp. I'm sure a 5.0 "forged" rotating assembly can go 1000+ or better. But I'm basing the better value based on bolt-ons and how much the engine can take as is. My buddy has a forged GT500 rotating assembly with twin turbo'd over 1200rwhp+, but that's not what we are talking about here. I am running ~740 rwhp without touching any internals.

The 5.0 is a great car, but the first time I drove my GT500 I decided in a block that it would be my car. Test driving at least 6 5.0's (including 2 recently when my wife was looking for a stang for herself,) none of them feel the same stock to stock. And if I can spend less than a grand to be putting down significantly more HP, it's worth it. BTW I ended up at 30k for my 07GT500 with 1200 miles when I bought it.

Your car is obviously quick because of the GT500 spoiler and diffuser

To be honest, I don't know what it will do. Its never been to the track. I keep adding "1 more" support mod to my list of things to do before I take it out. Right now I'm a couple hours from the closest track, but I'm moving and will be closer to a few tracks..
And yes, it feels waaaaayyy faster after the wing/diffuser install!

After that race i added the jba longtubes and jba o/r midpipe (combined $450 very lightly used on this forum) and vmp boost a pump $250, 3.73 gears $400, 72lb injectors I think $300 with trade-in.
I always invite the friendly run. Let's do it!

My money Is on the GT500.
My car (with very similar mods to adidasUNT8) runs mid 10s @ 135 on drag radials and pump gas. On slicks and some race fuel, 10.20s aren't out of reach. Not being a dick, but do that with a supercharged 5.0 and see how much it costs. The supercharger alone is over 6k, not to mention supporting mods. I really really like the 5.0s, and I am very impressed with them..... But I think the Shelby responds better to mods.

If the 5.0 is an auto, it that will improve the 1/4 mile time by quite a bit, and consistency.
If you care mainly about drag racing.. i think an auto 5.0 is probably the best choice
Pretty sure theres a guy making like 900+ rwhp on stock internals with an auto 5.0 turboed here on the boards too. (not saying this is a good idea)
