Buy it or not?

Buy it or not?
Went looking at a Shelby today, sort of. It was a 2007 GT that had been upgraded by Shelby American. I'm not certain what all that entails, but it was a nice car with only 19,000 miles on it. The only things I noticed different under the hood was the Monte Carlo bar and a cold air intake. Asking price was $28K and he said they had just lowered the price.

That is getting into 07-09 GT500 money. For another grand or two you can get one with similar mileage. I know not everyone is looking for a GT500 but I'd have a hard time spending that much on a glorified GT.
That said, it is a clean and sharp looking car.

Actually, Shelby GT's are a bit more than a Shelby appearance package.
They were only made in 2007 and 2008. They came about because so many people wanted to buy the 2006 Hertz version (Shelby GT-H) that Shelby was creating for Hertz to rent out at selected locations.
The 2007's came in only white or black and only coupes. For 2008, main color was Vista Blue, but Grabber Orange (SGT-C) (C for California)versions were available in the LA area. There were other small runs including 2008 Black Barrett-Jackson versions for the car auction company. Also, convertibles were available for 2008 MY
All Shelby GT's started life as standard GT's. The were plucked from the production line and sent to Shelby's facilities in Las Vegas for the conversions. (GT500's were made only on the Ford production line).
The conversion consisted of installing Ford Racing Handling Package (FR3), Ford Racing Power Upgrade Package (FR1), 3.55 rear end and a Performance X-Pipe Exhaust. Manual transmissions received a Hurst Short-Throw Shifter Kit. They also installed various scoops, hood pins, silver over the top and side stripes, various emblems and fascias, etc.
It bumped up the horsepower at bit and the torque to 330 ft-lb and lowered the car about 1 1/2 inch.
Each car also received its own CSM (Carroll Shelby Manufacturing) number with the ID plates on the dashboard and in the engine compartment. Most have been entered into the Shelby Registry.
So, if the above is something you are interested in, then the premium over a standard GT might be worth it. You also get a piece of Shelby legacy, if that's important to you.
